RESTORE PROGRAM

RESTORE is a Restorative Justice juvenile diversion program for shoplifters aged 10-18 referred through Denver County Court

RESTORE Demographics

  • 127 referrals to program
  • 69 completed program
  • Average age:  15.2
  • 52.5% female; 47.5% male
  • Hispanics 40%
  • White 27%
  • African American 23%
  • Asian 2%
  • Mixed 1%
  • Unknown 7%
  • Referrals live in 35 different ZIP Codes
  • Referrals go to 43 different middle and high schools in metro Denver area
  • Where shoplifting occurs:  King Soopers, schools, Albertsons, Safeway, Macy’s, Wal-Mart, Twist & Shout, Virgin Records, Rite Aid, 16th Street Mall, TJ Maxx, Clair’s, K-Mart, Others

Recidivism:
0% referrals for repeat offenses  (beginning of recidivism data recovery-January 2007 only)
Program Completion Projects:

  • *25 essays
  • *75 letters of apology
  • 1 Poem
  • 1 Song
  • 1 PowerPoint
  • 1 Presentation to audience of fundraising concert
  • 15 returnees to sit on monthly panels and explain their experience
  • 750 hours of community service
  • 500 hours of family service over and above regular chores
